Gita McCutcheon (formerly Gita Sweeney) founded Gita Group in January 2006 at age 27. The philosophy in creating the company was to foster an in-house type of relationship with clients by working closely with them to identify what makes them exciting and unique, while also offering the benefits of being an objective consultant. Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Gita spent her childhood between Santa Fe and the Hudson Valley Region of New York. She was raised in a spiritually diverse home with an emphasis on the teachings of Hinduism and Buddhism and “Gita,” which is derived from the Hindu language, is a family nickname that eventually set-in, although some people still call her “Heather.” Prior to starting the company, Gita worked at two top PR agencies in New York and had the opportunity to work with some of the most exceptional and renowned brands in the culinary and hospitality industry. Among them, Alain Ducasse, Charlie Trotter, Jacques Torres, Sirio Maccioni, The South Beach Wine & Food Festival, TurboChef Ovens, Moet & Chandon, Chambord Liqueur, as well as Michelin’s inaugural guide in the United States – the launch of The Michelin Guide New York City 2006.With the experience gained on successful publicity campaigns, she had amassed strong media and industry relationships when she founded Gita Group.
